28-08 Øygarden

first-winter Yellow Wagtail
Today I checked Breivik, Herdlevær, Svellingen and Turøy. It was quiet, with some Willow Warblers on the move, a Spotted Flycatcher at Turøy and lots of pipits and wagtails. At Breivik a Yellow Wagtail, not a common sight in Bergen area. Spent an hour at sea at Svellingen. Presumably not as good as Skogsøy, but quite OK for at least the bigger seabirds and not so far a walk. This hour produced two Great Skuas, some 30 Gannets and a group of 25 Red Knot with a Sanderling among them. Not bad at all.

Citrine Wagtail

first-winter Citrine Wagtail
Tried today the first-winter Citrine Wagtail on Lindås. It had been found by Ola Moen two days ago. He was so kind to show me the exact location. It was still present. It uttered frequently it's typical call, so finding the bird was no problem at all. Thanks, Ola.

tuesday 23-8 Herdla

Northern Wheatear
Juvenile Temmincks Stint
Temmincks Stints
juvenile Curlew Sandpiper

Beautiful day, beautiful weather and some birds. Spent two-and-a-half hour on Herdla, mainly to concentrate on waders. Reports of the last weeks suggested quite a lot of birds on the move. Also today: some 40 Dunlin, 40 Ringed Plover, a group of Golden Plover with Ruff, Red Knot and Bar-tailed Godwit between them. Further seven or eight Little Stints, two noisy Temmincks Stints and a few Curlew Sandpiper. Two Northern Wheatears, many White Wagtails and Meadow Pipits. Too early for the special songbirds.
